Short History of Syed Muhammad Mukhtar Ashraf

 Syed Muhammad Mukhtar Ashraf (Urdu: سید محمد مجطر اشرُف, Hindi: सैयद मोहम्मद मुख्तार अशरफ़) (Born: August 4, 1916; 4 Shawwal 1334 AH), also known as Sarkar-e-Kalan (Urdu: سرقرے کلا, Hindi: सरकार ए कला) or Shaykh-ul-Mashayikh (Urdu: شیخول مشائخ, Hindi: शैखुल मशाईख), was an Indian Sufi mystic, spiritual leader, and an Islamic scholar of the Ahl-e-Sunnat community within the Ashrafi Sufi order in Ashrafpur Kichhauchha, Uttar Pradesh, India. He was a descendant of Sultan Syed Ashraf Jahangir Semnani, the founder of the Ashrafi movement, and held the position of Sajjadanasheen (spiritual successor). Syed passed away in his birthplace on November 21, 1996, and was laid to rest near the shrine (dargah) of Ashraf Jahangir Semnani.



Early Life

Syed Muhammad Mukhtar Ashraf was born on August 4, 1916, corresponding to 4 Shawwal 1334 AH in the Islamic calendar, in Kichhauchha Sharif. He was the son of the respected Sufi Syed Ahmed Ashraf and a descendant of Sultan Syed Ashraf Jahangir Semnani.

Education

He received his early Islamic education in his hometown, Kichhauchha Sharif, and subsequently began studying the Dars-e-Nizami curriculum under Maulana Imaduddin Wasi Ahmed Sasrami and Maulana Abdur Rashid Nagpuri, who taught him all Dars-e-Nizami texts except Bukhari Sharif. He studied Bukhari Sharif under Hazrat Maulana Naeemuddin Muradabadi.

Legacy and Shrine

Syed Muhammad Mukhtar Ashraf’s shrine is located in Kichhauchha Sharif, Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, near the shrine of Ashraf Jahangir Semnani. His death anniversary (Urs) is celebrated annually on the 9th of Rajab, attracting millions of devotees to Kichhauchha Sharif.
